Today I’m happy to introduce to you a new series here at Jenny Starkey Photography…What to Wear Wednesday! (The English Major in me just had to use a little alliteration on this one!)
Now I’m assuming that I’m not the only one around here who finds figuring out what everyone is going to wear for family photos the most stressful part of the whole process. In order to help take some of the stress out of this process I will be posting about once a week with some helpful tips and even some visual idea boards too!
I’m going to kick it off this week with my top four tips for dressing for family photos.
Four Tips for What to Wear:
- Don’t be matchy, matchy. Avoid the all jeans and white t-shirts or the everyone in black look. Instead choose two to three colors that complement each other and build your outfit choices around those. Have fun with what you wear!
- Layer, Layer, Layer! Layers of clothing look great in photos and help to add texture to your photos. Think sweaters, jackets, scarves, hats, etc. Also, take off a layer part way through the session and you have an instant and easy wardrobe change!
- Add in a “wild card.” Have someone wear an unexpected pop of color or a fun print to help add dimension to your photo.
- And my biggest piece of advice: make sure you feel good in what you wear! Choose clothing that accentuates your best features and that you feel confident and beautiful in. You will be more at ease in front of the camera if you feel good about how you look!
