3 Things to Keep in Mind When Preparing for Your Beach Photo Session

You’ve seen all the gorgeous beach photos on pinterest and have decided that it’s the perfect location for your next family photos, and I don’t blame you! There’s something magical about a beach photo session! But as a mom, I also know that a beach photo session can cause a little bit of stress.  But it doesn’t have to be stressful! Here are 3 ways you can prep for your beach photo session to keep it as stress free as possible.

3 Things to Keep in Mind When Preparing for your Beach Photo Session

1. Be prepared for the weather.

Ok, so I’m going to assume that if you want a beach session you’re ok with the sun and sand. Keep in mind that it could be windy and be prepared to just go with it. Part of the beauty of a beach session is the windswept look so don’t let hair blowing stress you out. Also keep in mind that it could be overcast and chilly. Prepare for your beach session by having a cardigan or sweater for each person in the family that coordinates with your outfits. (Here are a few of my favorites).

2. Plan outfits that will work with a beach photo session.

If you have little kids you just assume that they’re going to be wet and sandy by the end- and that’s ok! One of my favorite parts of a beach session with kids is it gives us some great opportunities to capture images of you playing together as a family.  But you should think through how you’re going to react when clothes inevitably get wet and sandy. Do you want to keep it more casual because of this? Or maybe dress up but know that the kids might not look quite as perfect by the end of the session? Do what works for your family but thinking through these things ahead of time always helps to reduce stress.

3. Don’t forget the fun.

Don’t forget to have fun at your photo session- you are at the beach after all! Most of the time people choose a beach location for photos because it’s a favorite place for their family. Don’t let worrying about what everyone’s wearing, or windswept hair, or sandy clothes keep you from relaxing and simply enjoying your family. The more you relax and have fun the more you’ll come away with images that capture the real joy of your family for you to treasure for years to come.
